You aren’t what you think you are – What You Think You Are! – Retrain Your Mind and change your world.

My father left his marriage and two children when I was twelve years old and moved to a different state, so I lost the regular contact a boy needs with the one person in his life that prepares them to be the man they need to become.

However, he left me with one comment that rattled around in my head and still impacts me whenever I allow it out of the dark closet, which is my subconscious.

“He will never amount to anything.”

The psychological damage from this one comment passed by my father limited my ability to believe in myself and reach my true potential until I learned how to overcome this damage. The thoughts that ran through my head diminished my ability to make positive changes in my life and foster confidence in myself.

Retrain Your Mind

Negative self-talk can be stressful and limit your success until you find a way to overcome the issue.

Retraining your mind is a robust process that can increase positivity, reduce stress, and improve overall well-being. One effective method is practising mindfulness meditation, which helps you focus on the present moment and observe your thoughts without judgment. This practice can increase awareness of your thought patterns and help you let go of negative thinking.

Another key strategy is to challenge and reframe negative thoughts actively. When you think negatively, pause and consciously look for alternative, more positive perspectives. This process, often used in cognitive behavioural therapy, can help rewire your brain over time, giving you a sense of control and empowerment. Additionally, practising gratitude by regularly acknowledging the good things in your life can significantly shift your mindset towards positivity.

Physical health plays a crucial role in mental retraining. Regular exercise increases blood flow to the brain, improving cognitive function and mood. Proper nutrition, especially foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, B vitamins, and antioxidants, supports brain health and plasticity. Ensuring quality sleep is also essential, as it strengthens positive neural pathways and enhances overall brain function.

Continuous learning and mental stimulation are vital for retraining your mind. Engaging in new activities, such as learning a language, playing an instrument, or solving puzzles, challenges your brain and promotes neuroplasticity. Reading expands your knowledge and improves your ability to think critically and respond efficiently to problems, making you feel more engaged and proactive in your mental retraining journey.

Lastly, social connections and creativity play significant roles in retraining your mind. Strengthening relationships and seeking mentorship can provide emotional support and a new perspective, making you feel more connected and supported. Engaging in creative activities like drawing, writing, or playing music can enhance your problem-solving skills and ability to think flexibly. Remember, retraining your mind is a gradual process that requires consistent effort, but the long-term benefits to your mental health and overall quality of life are invaluable.
